Rosamaria C.
Hi, It’s Rosamaria!
I'm a communication and career coach based in California. I guide, coach and support first-generation professionals, and women of color professionals and leaders. I help first-gens thrive at work, stand out in their careers, and in their community.
Are you a first-generation professional?
If you're like me, you’re one.
I’m the first in my family to go to college to pursue a profession out of passion and not financial need. I’m also someone who has the privilege to work in the nonprofit sector and on causes that make a difference in people's lives.
You're a first-generation professional if you are the first in your family to graduate from high school and make it through college as a child of a low-income family, a mixed-status immigrant family, a single-parent family, or from a foster care family. Getting a college degree is an accomplishment in itself, but it’s 100 times harder when you’re starting miles behind the starting line.
I was accepted to UC Berkeley twice. Both times were difficult, and I felt unprepared. I worked hard in high school so that I would be admitted to any college, but when I arrived at UC Berkeley I knew I was out of place. Many of the students in my class were light years ahead of me. It took me a semester to figure out a way to succeed. With the support of mentors, friends, and a lot of hard work, I obtained a Bachelor’s in psychology and sociology in 2010. And a Master’s in Social Welfare with a focus on management and planning in 2012.
I’ve been in the workforce for eight years, and my desire for teaching, coaching, and inspiring first-gens and women to reach for their dreams continues to guide me.
